I really needed to pay tribute to the man who kept me going while I was a young woman in the business end at Boeing. He continued to support my efforts and sent articles and words of advice. He often reminded me that I was one of his top ten percenters and that meant a lot because he was a professor who was feared yet adored. He has touched many lives in the classroom at CWU. I just read a word of encouragement he wrote me in 1985 and I have kept it all of these years. We need more of him.

Verna, We visited about two years ago shortly after Charles was admitted to the nursing home. Don and Kathy Tabor notified me of the sad news. Over the past few months, Don and Kathy have told me about Charles, and it was of great interest that I read his obituary. Charles was a man of grit, determination, and purpose. Charles, like many of my classmates from this small Kansas town, served their nation with honor, bravery, and valor during times of great crisis. I salute Charles, and these men, and thank them for their service. As a veteran and professor, Charles gave so much of himself for the benefit of others. A life well lived. May he be at peace!! Charles- I know he will be missed. His Mom Bernice Lowden always loved him although he never saw her after the mid 1950's. Henry(Smoky) and LaHoma Eubanks helped raise him but the love for him was never returned. We three cousins(Skip and Gary ) , the sons of Smoky and LaHoma , wanted to have some relationship but he chose to write us off!His own 2 half brothers , Clyde and Kenneth Lowden, and half sisiter , Flossie Lowden always wanted to have a relationship but Charles chose not to do so. I hope Charles now finds Peace.My sympathy to Verna ,Tanya, and Ardath ! Lanny

My condolences to the Guatney family. I am very sorry to hear of your loss. I hope that the memories you've shared with Charles brings you happiness and comfort. Also comforting are the words at Psalm 147:3 which says, "He[God] is healing the brokenhearted ones, and is binding up their painful spots." Know that God is going to help you to endure under the distresses that you are facing, and also has provided a hope for dead loved ones in the future. ~John 5:28,29, Acts 24:15

In this sad time for the family, may you find comfort in our promise for Mr. Guatney at Isa. 25:8, "And he will actually swallow up death forever, and the Sovereign Lord Jehovah will certainly wipe the tears from all faces."
